With the economy the way it is right now with all the layoffs and more to come; government spending and deficit out of control; the continued housing slump; one wonders where to turn for help. In certain ways, debt consolidation is an appealing prospect because of the single-bill factor, but my current debts are not of the easily-transferred type: Home equity loan funds given to me by a relative. I pay him and he pays down the loan. That's the first debt I want to pay off, for obvious reasons.
